A Springtime Sing Out and Some Sensational Soroptimists

Leigh Community Choir Celebrates International Women’s Day

We were delighted to be invited by Soroptimist International (Leigh and District) to support their Women for Women Showcase which was held at Pennington Wharf Community Hub in Leigh on Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day.

There was a wide range of stalls exhibiting goods and services offered by local charities as well as community groups sharing information on what they do and how people can become involved. The choir was happy to have our own table which enabled us to chat with many local women and girls, and encourage them to give singing a try. The table also provided an excellent place to sample some of the gorgeous cakes that were on offer!

We performed a mix of songs which included folk and pop, and had the chance to premiere our latest number, an a cappella arrangement of the 90s pop classic “Angels” by Robbie Williams. Also, we know that you shouldn’t really have favourites, but if we did happen to have a current one, it might just be Billy Joel’s “Longest Time” which was sung with much enthusiasm and flare.

It is always a privilege to be asked to be a part of such important community events and we were verry touched to have Wigan Council describe our performance as “entertaining, moving and uplifting”. As well as the joy we all find in being part of the choir, comments like this mean a lot and we are happy to be able to have such a positive impact on those who come to hear us.

If you would like to be involved in what we do, or simply find out more, then please do contact us using the details on our website, or come along to one of our rehearsals to see and hear for yourself, we would love to welcome you.
